We are an open and affirming spiritual community practicing in the Soto Zen Buddhist tradition.

“We welcome all people of any race, class, religious background and practice, sexual orientation or gender expression, and level of experience with Buddhism or meditation traditions and practices.”

— Shojo Joy Brennan, Zen priest and KZC founder and teacher

Our Practice

Our community walks the Buddhist path together.

Through meditation, discussion of Buddhist teachings, and mutual support, we cultivate awareness, wisdom, and compassion.

You are welcome

  • Tuesday Evenings

Join us for weekly zazen (seated meditation) followed by dharma (Buddhist teachings) reading and discussion.

  • Thursday Mornings

Join us bright and early for zazen followed by chanting the Heart Sutra.

  • Zen Seminar

One Saturday morning a month we hold a Zen Seminar for beginners. This event orients new students to our temple’s Zen practice. The seminar includes an introduction to zazen (seated meditation) and to the Zen tradition and teachings, as well as a chance to sit zazen with others.

  • Saturday Morning Sit

One Saturday morning a month we hold zazen and then a dharma talk, usually given by our teacher Shojo Joy. This immediately follows the monthly Zen Seminar for beginners.
